On May 19, the 2017 Jiangsu Graphene Industry Development Summit Forum was held in Changzhou, Jiangsu. Five Chinese experts in the field of graphene jointly discussed the current research and development, application and industrialization of graphene in China.

The reporter noticed that graphene belongs to the carbon material industry chain among the "ten industrial chains" in Changzhou. Not long ago, Changzhou's graphene town was included in the list of the first batch of 25 provincial-level characteristic towns in Jiangsu Province.

According to public information, graphene is a two-dimensional single-layer carbon atomic crystal material with excellent mechanical, electrical, thermal conductivity, barrier properties and other material properties. It is known as the "king of new materials" and "super material".

Since the maker of graphene won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010, graphene's "hotness" in the industry has been rising all the way.

In October 2011, Jiangnan Graphene Research Institute was established in Changzhou West Taihu Science and Technology Industrial Park. It is the first public service platform in China that focuses on the research and development of graphene industrial applications.

Since then, China's graphene industrial parks and graphene bases have blossomed everywhere. At present, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Wuxi, Ningbo and other places have laid out the graphene industry. All sorts of so-called "graphene" products keep coming out. At the same time, the capital market is also hyping graphene concept stocks.

As an early start-up city in China, Changzhou has gathered 95 graphene-related enterprises, and the output value of related industries has exceeded 2 billion yuan.

At the Jiangsu Graphene Industry Development Summit Forum, many experts issued a warning signal for the current graphene industry that is too hot.

Wang Yuzhong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and deputy dean of the School of Chemistry of Sichuan University, said that graphene research is now being carried out in various fields, and many related articles can be retrieved. The ability to discern which research can be translated into a product and which cannot.”

Wang Yuzhong emphasized that graphene is not omnipotent, and the research on graphene is still in the development stage, and it is necessary to find the most suitable and irreplaceable field for research and development.

In addition, although graphene research is very hot today, in contrast to the product market, there are not many products that really open up commercial applications.

According to Caijing.com, an investor who has been engaged in the field of graphene for a long time said that graphene is a basic material and is inherently uncertain. Many industrialization directions are feasible in theory, but not in reality.

Some investors in the new material industry said that finding the just-needed areas for graphene applications is the key to promoting industrialization. He believes that graphene, as a new material, has special properties. There are various graphene products on the market, but whether the products have performance advantages and cost advantages needs to be verified.
