The mining of special copper mines in my country is only ten years old, and it is urgent to strengthen mineral research and exploration

At present, iron, copper, and aluminum resources are in short supply in my country. It is estimated that the proven iron ore, copper ore, bauxite and other popular minerals can only be mined for about ten years at most. This was revealed by Hu Ruizhong, director of the Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in an interview with the guest Minwang Technology Channel "Prospecting Breakthroughs in China's Eight Research Fields".

Hu Ruizhong pointed out that energy and mineral resources are very important material foundations for human economic and social development. More than 95% of the world's energy, more than 90% of industrial raw materials and more than 70% of deep agricultural resources come from mineral resources. However, my country's resource situation is very severe.

On the one hand, our country has a huge demand for mineral resources. Since the 1990s, with the rapid development of our country's economy, the demand for mineral resources has also increased dramatically. Although the demand is very large now, the demand for mineral resources in our country will continue to grow rapidly until at least 2025, and it will enter a slow growth trend after 2025.

On the other hand, the guarantee capability of our country's proven mineral resources is insufficient, as shown in: our country's per capita proven resources account for roughly half of the world average; at the same time, the proven reserves structure is unreasonable, Large demand is very short, and the demand for advantageous minerals is not very large. Of the 45 major minerals used in my country, only 9 may meet demand by 2020, such as iron, copper, and aluminum. The current situation is very scarce. It is initially estimated that some major popular minerals such as iron ore, copper ore, and bauxite that have been proven in my country can only be mined for about ten years at most. And now the foreign dependence of these minerals has reached more than 50%, that is, more than 50% need to be imported from abroad. Steel and aluminum can reach about 70% and need to be imported from abroad. The international price of mineral resources has been soaring in the past ten years, and has doubled several times within a few years. Our country needs a lot of foreign exchange to import mineral items. From the perspective of mineral deposits, my country's import and export trade deficit has now reached more than 100 billion US dollars per year.

Hu Ruizhong said, "In such a large country, resources are so scarce. If we do not strengthen the research, exploration, development and utilization of mineral resources, it will restrict the future development of our country." He believes that from the perspective of the country's economic development and security, it is also necessary to strengthen the development and utilization of this field.

At the academician conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences held this year, General Secretary Hu proposed to "strive to achieve breakthrough progress as soon as possible" in eight major scientific research fields, of which "vigorously develop the development and utilization of energy resources" was placed first. People's Daily Online Technology Channel invited Chen Yong, Dean of Guangzhou Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Hu Ruizhong, Director of Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to be guests of the People's Network, and to interpret the countermeasures in depth.
